Lu Ji (261-303), courtesy name Shiheng, was a litterateur and calligraphist of the Western Jin Dynasty. He and his younger brother Lu Yun were both renowned literati of that period. Lu Ji was also an outstanding calligraphist. His Pingfu Tie (Pingfu Rubbing) is the earliest extant model calligraphy of a celebrity. Lu Ji was praised as "Elite of Taikang". There are 104 poems of Lu Ji handed down, mostly Yuefu poems and pseudo-classic poems. Representative works include Junzi Xing (Travel of Gentlemen), Fuluo Daozhong Zuo (Written on the Way to Luoyang), etc. There are 27 Fus (verse-style prose) in existence. As to prose, besides the well-known Bian Wang Lun , there is another representative entitled Diao Weiwudi Wen (Condolence on the Death of Emperor Wu of Wei). The works of Lu Ji with harmonious rhythm, antithesis and plenty of literary allusions pioneered the parallel prose style. |
