Lu Ban

Lu Ban
Lu Ban was from the State of Lu in the early Warring States Period.

Lu Ban was from the State of Lu in the early Warring States Period. He was born into a family that had been practicing carpentry for generations. As a child, Lu Ban worked in a lot of building projects with the family.

Around 450 BC, Lu Ban went to the State of Chu from his native Lu State. He helped the State of Chu in building grappling hooks and ram-boat implements used during a naval warfare, and cloud ladder—a mobile counterweighted siege ladder.

In addition, Lu Ban made the wooden bird with wood and bamboo. Created with the inspiration drawn from bird flight, the wooden bird was a flying object that could stay in the air for three days running.

After the Han Dynasty, Lu Ban was honored as the ancestor of carpenters and the God of Protection in the industry.
