Zhou Dunyi (1017 - 1073), born in Yingdao County of Daozhou (today's Daoxian County of Hunan Province), was an ideologist and neo-Confucian scholar of the Song Dynasty of China. Zhou Dunyi's Confucian thoughts played a transitional role in the history of Chinese philosophy. He inherited the thoughts of Yi Zhuan as well as part of Taoist thoughts on the one hand, and put forward wuji, taiji, yinyang, Five Elements, dynamic and static, good and evil, etc, which became the subject of neo-Confucianism research of later generations. His works are collected in the Complete Works of Zhou Dunyi. |
