Cheng Yaojin (593-665), born in Dong'e of Jizhou (in the southwest part of the present Dong'e of Shandong Province), was a great general in the Tang Dynasty awarded Lord of Lu Land (Lu Guogong) and one of the 24 great statesmen of Lingyan'ge Pavilion. Cheng Yaojin was a descent of an old and well-known family. His great-grandfather Cheng Xing was the Governor of Yanzhou in the North Qi Dynasty, his grandfather Cheng Zhe was the Governor of Jinzhou in the Northern Qi Dynasty, and his father Cheng Lou was also a high official in the northern Qi Dynasty who took charge of Yingzhou. According to historical records, Cheng Yaojin was "valiant in his youth and adept at wielding his horse and long lance". In the late Sui Dynasty, Cheng Yaojin joined in the Wagang Rebel Army and later surrendered to another rebellion leader Wang Shichong. At last he surrendered to the Tang court and was awarded Lord of Lu Land, being one of the backbone members of King Li Shimin, Prince Qin of Tang. |
