At the early Western Zhou Dynasty, there were three virtuous females credited as "Three Mothers of the Zhou Family", which were Emperor Wen's grandmother, mother, and concubine, whose names were respectivelyl Taijiang, Tairen and Taisi. They assisted their respective husband to start their career and rear the children, who later became virtuous emperors in Chinese history.

King Wen of Zhou named Ji Chang was the founder of the Zhou Dynasty. He was the son of King Ji of Zhou, the third son of King Tai of Zhou, and the favored grandson of his grandfather. He was the nephew of Wu Taibo and Zhongyong, both rulers of the State of Wu at one time.
