This is the figure painting of Qiu Changchun, one of the seven True Saints in the Laolv Hall. After the Tang Dynasty, emperors often granted the title "True Saint" to extraordinary talents or renowned contemporary Taoist monks. The title was lower than the immortals (神, shen) but higher than the celestial beings (仙, xian) in rank. Emperor Taizu of Yuan, Genghis Khan, granted the title "Chang Chun Yan Dao Zhu Jiao Zhen Ren", or "True Saint Changchun of the Taoist Sect" to Master Qiu Chuji. The statue of Qiu Changchun is located in the center of the hall. To the east of his statue are those of Tan Chuduan, Liu Chuxuan and Ma Jue; to the west are those of Hao Datong, Wang Chuyi and Sun Bu'er. |
