Cheng Hao (1032-1085), born in Luoyang, Henan, was an educator in the Northern Song Dynasty. He was not put in a very important position because he held different political opinions with Wang Anshi. Therefore, he devoted himself to academic learning. Cheng Hao held that education aimed at cultivating sages and it must take Confucian classics as its teaching material and Confucian ethics as its content. He also suggested that learning was to clarify the reasons and learners should pay attention to the learning method. |
