“Four times seven is twenty-eight,” said one man.
“Four times seven is twenty-seven,” said another.
The two men argued and argued until they became so furious that they got into a fist fight, and were brought before the local magistrate who ruled that the first man be caned.
The man shouted his protest.
“You were so foolish,” said the magistrate, “as to come to blows with a man who was ridiculous enough to suggest four times seven is twenty-seven? Shouldn’t you be punished?”
The man had to admit that the magistrate had a point there.

Silence is golden when it is plain meaningless to argue. If the first man were sensible, he would not have got himself into trouble for taking a fool so seriously.
