Prince Poyang of Southern Qi and his wife loved each other deeply. When Prince Poyang died a tragic death at the hand of his enemy, Lady Poyang was so distraught that she fell ill. Day and night, she thought of her loved one, unable to accept the fact that he was dead. In time her illness became chronic. Doctors tried various cures but she would not respond to any treatment.

Her brother sought the help of a prominent artist. He asked him to paint a picture of Prince Poyang with his favorite concubine. It was a lurid scene of intimacy with the couple making love in front of a mirror. Then he asked Lady Poyang’s nanny to show her the picture.

Upon seeing the picture, Lady Poyang turned very angry. “You deserved to die, you devil!” She cursed, spitting at the picture with contempt. “You should’ve been killed a long time ago, you bastard!”

After that, her condition took a turn for the better and she gradually recovered her health.
